Hawkwind London Hammersmith Odeon 22nd April 1988. This was taped by BBC Radio 1 and a 60 minute excerpt was broadcast a few weeks later. The full show was: 1. Intro * 2. Arrival In Utopia 3. Needle Gun 4. Sword Of The East 5. Lost Chronicles * 6. War I Survived 7. Levitation * 8. Heads * 9. Shot Down In The Night * 10. Mutation Zone * 11. Tides * 12. Wasteland Of Sleep * 13. Moonglum * 14. Sonic Attack * 15. Rocky Paths 16. Master Of The Universe 17. The Right Stuff 18. Free Fall * 19. Brainstorm (with the BBC broadcast tracks marked "*"). I had lots of version of this recording to play with. The ones I ended up using were: 2 versions are archived (well, all of #2 and part of #1 on the "raw" archive discs, and just the finalised 60 min dis on the "finalised" .shn disc). Version 1: SB>??>FM>unknown>.shn Version #1 came from Bryan Young and has a flip between Moonglum and Sonic Attack. Version 2: SB>??>FM>??>TDK SA-X90 cassette master with dolby B>Pioneer CT-S550S>Yamaha SW1000XG>.wav Version 2 is my master cassette. The tape flip occurs during the first few seconds of Rocky Paths. A patch is therefore possible to repair either version from the other. Additional versions that were checked included an alternative (mono) master, the Hawk Log bootleg, and a couple of unknown gen discs - of which "version 2" above was by far the best. It has a sound that is wide and clean - if slightly bass-lite. The treble on version #2 is arguably a little weak, but all things considered I figured it was better to patch the flip in version #2 with a few seconds from version #1. (CEP) Processing for patching version 2 flip from version 1: 1. Applied FFT filter to give version 2 better tone (ie bass boost). (+0db @ 22Hz, +8.1db @ 74Hz, +7.8db @ 130Hz, +5.4db @ 171Hz, +0db @ 259Hz, +0db @ 4992Hz, +3db @ 22050Hz) 2. Deleted final comments by Johnny Walker from end of version 2 segment 2. 3. Identified matching sections for patch. 4. Applied FFT filter to give version #1 closer tone to version #2. (+0db @ 22Hz, +10.8db @ 74Hz, +10.4db @ 130Hz, +7.2db @ 171Hz, +0db @ 259Hz, +0db @ 4992Hz, -4db @ 22050Hz) 5. Used CEP multitrack facility to line up and mix down new complete version. The patch is cross-faded in and out over approximately 1/5th second. The patch therefore sounds smoother than it otherwise would. 6. Mixdown track saved and cut to CD-length tracks in CDWAV. .shn'ed with MKW 0.97 beta 1. Final Tracking: 1. Intro 1:15 2. Arrival In Utopia 6:22 3. War I Survived 3:51 4. Heads 6:04 5.
